Men’s trouser sizes show the waist and inside leg in inches, for example W32xL31. Women’s trousers show the UK dress size.

Start with accurate measurements
How to measure for Portwest workwear
Wear close-fitting clothing when measuring, keep the tape level and hold it close to the body without pulling it tight.
AChest
Measure horizontally around the widest part of the chest or bust, keeping the tape straight across your back.
BWaist
Measure around your natural waistline, where you normally wear your trousers.
CInside leg
Measure from the crotch to the floor along the inside of the leg, without shoes.
DHeight
Stand straight against a wall without shoes; your height helps you choose between Short, Regular and Tall.
Choosing between sizes: for tops, jackets and coveralls, start with the chest. For trousers, use the waist together with the inside leg. Allow for any layers you expect to wear underneath.

Some coveralls and jackets are also made in a Tall length, shown on the product page as, for example, L Regular and L Tall. A few coveralls are sized by chest in inches, for example 42″ Chest. Hi-vis vests are sized in pairs, for example L/XL, to fit over other clothing.

Children’s Portwest sizes
Portwest children’s garments are sized by age, for example Age 8-9. Choose by your child’s age and height, and size up if they are tall for their age or will wear warm layers underneath.
Work gloves
Portwest glove sizes
Measure around your open hand at the knuckles, excluding the thumb, in inches. That measurement is your glove size: for example, 9 inches is size 9, which is L. Gloves that are too large can affect your grip; gloves that are too small are less comfortable.

The number is the EN hand size printed on the glove; the letter is Portwest’s equivalent. Many Portwest gloves are sold in packs of 12 pairs.

Portwest footwear sizes
Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall, mark the end of your longest toe and measure. Measure both feet and use the longer one, and allow a little room in front of the toes. Feet swell slightly during the day.

Are these body measurements or garment measurements?
They are body measurements. Measure your body as described above and compare the result with the appropriate chart. The finished garment includes the room intended for that particular style.
What does W32xL31 mean?
W is the waist and L the inside leg, both in inches. Portwest’s leg lengths are Short (29in), Regular (31in) and Tall (33in).
What should I do if I am between sizes?
Consider the layers you will wear underneath and the movement your work requires. If you are still uncertain, contact us before ordering.
