The Portwest FC48 Composite Leather Foundry Boot is built for welding, metal handling and foundry work, where molten metal splash and hot surfaces are part of the job. It offers high protection against molten iron splash. Its leather protective flap releases quickly, so you can get the boot off in under 5 seconds if hot metal gets inside.

Underfoot, a heat resistant rubber outsole copes with temperatures up to 300ºC and adds slip resistance and a ladder grip. Insulation helps against both heat and cold, and a cushioned footbed with padded collar and tongue keeps you comfortable through long shifts. The construction is entirely metal free.

Materials and performance

Full grain leather upper with a rubber outsole, composite toe cap and composite midsole. Stitched with FR aramid thread.

Standards and protection

Certified to EN ISO 20345:2022 +A1:2024 (PL CI HI HRO FO LG SR) for safety footwear. Also certified to EN ISO 20349-1:2017+A1:2020 (Wg Fe Al) for protection against thermal risks and molten metal splash in foundries and welding.

Quick-release flap

The leather flap closes with hook and loop and covers the boot opening. If molten metal gets inside, pull the flap away and the internal strap comes with it, so you can remove the boot in under 5 seconds. The grip tab is sized for use in a leather gauntlet.
